Farewell marks a new chapter for TCP service

Juniper farewelled its outdated Charles Jenkins building last week, moving its Transition Care Program (TCP) to new sites across Perth, Albany and in people’s own homes, giving customers more choice about where and how they receive support after a hospital visit.

The decades old Charles Jenkins building located in Bentley dated back to 1967, when it was originally known as Charles Jenkins Hospital and provided services for aged care residents.

In 2002, the building was decommissioned and re-purposed, most recently converted to a TCP site in 2017.

Juniper Chief Executive Officer Russell Bricknell said the Charles Jenkins building had served its purpose well over many years, but it was important that Juniper continued to evolve its services.

“We have evolved our Transition Care Program with a focus on reablement, supporting people to be as independent as possible, for as long as possible. Our TCP now gives customers the choice to receive care in our residential homes in Bentley, Martin and Albany, in our small-house model in Karrinyup; in their own home; or a combination of both,” Russell said.

“During this change it was really important for Juniper to ensure its Charles Jenkins staff were offered opportunities at the new TCP sites. These staff have done a wonderful job of offering continuity of care for existing customers and welcoming new customers to the service.”

To invest in this new TCP program, Juniper opened a refurbished, modern 16-bed TCP location at Juniper Annesley in Bentley in October last year.

Juniper Manager Pastoral and Spiritual Care David van Leen shared a prayer with fellow chaplains to commemorate the decommissioning of the Charles Jenkins building earlier this week.
