Juniper Chief Executive Officer Mr Chris Hall AM said the care and accommodation needs of the Great Southern region’s ageing population are being met with contemporary services in an excellent state-of-the-art care home.
“Family members should not feel compelled to find accommodation for their loved ones further afield – residents can enjoy the most modern services available and live life in comfort in the community they love,” Mr Hall said.
“Juniper Korumup is bringing enormous benefits to the community through the construction and operation of the building, through to employment and rewarding career opportunities in the aged care sector.”
Mr Hall said Juniper’s investment in the community has been significant and will continue as the organisation looks to the future needs of Albany City and the wider region.
“More than $30 million has been expended by Juniper to construct and commission Juniper Korumup and with 80 percent local supply, around $2 million has been injected into the local economy,” he said.
“At maximum capacity the new service will employ about 120 new roles comprising skilled nursing, care and allied health workers, as well as management and support staff.”
The project has taken out several 2019 Master Builder Association WA Awards, Great Southern: best regional project; best aged care building ($20 million-$50 million); excellence in brick and block paving; excellence in ceilings; site manager of the year and the silver trowel award.
As part of the organisation’s goal to be the preferred employer and provider of choice in aged care, Juniper has invested in upskilling its employees, with a strong focus on training and development for its workforce.
State-wide Juniper has opened four new services and delivered more than 350 aged care places in the past 18 months, giving the organisation one of the largest aged care footprints in the nation.
“Since humble beginnings in 1949 we have developed as one of WA’s most forward thinking, mission-based providers of high quality care and accommodation for older people.”
In addition to the self-funded $30M 100 bed Juniper Korumup facility in Lockyer, the organisation since May 2018 has delivered: the 120-bed Juniper Chrystal Halliday facility in Karrinyup; 100 bed Juniper Hayloft in Martin, Gosnells; 32 bed Juniper Gerdewoonem in Kununurra and 40 self-contained retirement apartments at Juniper Orana in Menora.
“Juniper carers and nursing staff bring a high level of care to our residents. We listen and learn so we can share life’s journey and enable our people to live their best life,” Mr Hall said.
Juniper Korumup (Mengang for “Boronia”) was officially opened by Juniper Board Chair Mr Fred Boshart and the building was dedicated by Uniting Church WA Moderator Rev Steve Francis on 26 September 2019.
