From taking calls at front reception of Juniper Ella Williams Residential Aged Care Home in Noranda to looking after the catering needs of baby goats, Administration Officer Caitlyn Adlum has a diverse skillset for a varied role.
“It’s a real variety – I run around doing all the little things like ordering stock, archiving, emails, phone calls and even re-heating milk for baby goats when an animal farm visited,” Caitlyn said.
“Getting to interact with residents is the best part.”
After moving from Adelaide to Perth as a youngster, Caitlyn had aspired to becoming a ballet dancer, but her sister’s role as an occupational therapist piqued her interest in helping others.
“The things she used to share with us were pretty cool, how she would interact with older people and make a connection with others,” Caitlyn said.
Since moving into the aged care sector close to five years ago, Caitlyn has had the opportunity to connect with others each and every workday.
Away from work, Caitlyn volunteers as a youth leader with the Woodvale Baptist Church where she hosts games and activities for high school aged kids every Friday.
When it comes to four-legged interests, Caitlyn’s prized pooch Goose has become a popular part of Juniper Ella Williams, visiting each week.
“Some residents even have her photo in their room, as they miss her when she’s not around,” Caitlyn said.
Part of Juniper for the past two and a half years, Caitlyn attributes the Ella Williams team and the variety of duties as the secrets to why she enjoys her role so much.
“It’s different every day and I get to help with small things that you don’t immediately think of like celebrating wedding anniversaries and having a slice of cake together – that’s fun,” Caitlyn said.
“I think the team we have here really care, which is awesome, and they genuinely want to make a difference.”
