Juniper has launched a new well-being program focused on supporting its greatest asset – its people.
The importance of mental health and psycho-social risk is not new in the workplace. As the nature of workplaces and jobs evolve, there is a growing focus on acknowledging and managing psychological safety to maintain a mentally healthy environment.
Juniper’s Work Health and Safety team (pictured above) has introduced a pilot program with funding from the Mentally Healthy Workplaces Grant Program (Department of Mines, Industry Regulation and Safety), which is being rolled out in stages to all Juniper locations until the end of 2025.
At the core of the program is encouraging staff to complete an anonymous risk assessment questionnaire about their work environment and experiences over the previous three months. This insight and feedback will be important given that no-one understands the job better than the people carrying out the work.
On completion of the questionnaire, participants receive a summary of their responses, which are then compiled with feedback from colleagues.
The data collected will inform and support Juniper’s ongoing strategies for recognising and prioritising mental wellbeing in the workplace.
Juniper’s Work Health and Safety Manager John Clarkson said supporting staff wherever possible was integral to delivering exceptional customer care.
“We view the psycho-social risk management program as an investment in our people, whilst also building a best-practice model for workplace mental health and wellness.” John said.
“This translates to a trusted, healthy work environment, coupled with the shared outcome of a caring and quality service for our customers.”
Our iLearn training modules include managing stress, and assessing and understanding psychosocial hazards. The topics provide context to the survey, whilst reinforcing the importance of speaking-up to report concerns to management.
Developed in collaboration with consultants People Diagnostix, the program has added depth to Juniper’s existing Work Health and Safety system.
