Stuart started his volunteer work at Juniper in May 2018 as a Bus Driver for Juniper Hilltop, a residential aged care home in Bentley.
After semi-retiring as a General Practitioner for Juniper, Stuart decided to come back as a volunteer.
“I have always wanted to drive a bus! I obtained my bus license and applied for a volunteer job at Juniper”
“It is not just the driving that I love. I really enjoy the fascinating conversations I have with the residents. Our Older Western Australians have a lot of wisdom to impart.”
“I have the joy of taking the residents out on weekly social bus outings to some of the best locations around Perth. Some of my favourite trips have been to Fremantle Boat Harbour, Queen’s Gardens, and Whiteman Park, ” said Stuart.
Stuart particularly enjoys taking the residents out to see the sights of Fremantle.
“The spectacular heritage buildings retain much of their old-world charm. We usually stop in at the iconic fish and chips destination Cicerello’s and enjoy hot chips and a morning cuppa overlooking the boat harbour. The joy of the residents is profound as they appreciate the scenic view, the salty air, and, of course, the chips!”
Stuart said the bus outings are inclusive to all residents.
“The enthusiasm of the carers who accompany the residents makes the weekly drives all the more enjoyable. Everyone involved has a fun day together, and I love being a part of it.”
To all our valuable volunteers like Stuart – thank you!
